Ekaterinburg Deputy Mayor Inspects Site of Dangerous Pit Near Residential Building

The Deputy Mayor of Ekaterinburg, Rustam Galyamov, has visited the residential building at 4 Raevskogo Street after cracks appeared near the property due to a nearby construction pit. Galyamov, who oversees construction in the city, is investigating the cause of the damage and potential solutions.

Galyamov stated that issues likely arose during the initial stages of construction, specifically in the calculation of the sheet pile enclosure and potential errors in geological surveys. He emphasized that the developer should have reassessed the project immediately after the ground movement was detected. Independent experts will be brought in to provide an assessment soon.

The construction project is being carried out by “Atomstroykompleks.” The city authorities had already requested a halt to foundation work last week, and it is possible that the construction permit for the site will be revoked altogether.

“Atomstroykompleks” has pledged to repair the landscaping damaged by the land collapse around the pit. The company’s press service said that they are ready to begin restoring the damaged area soon and are coordinating with residents to ensure access to the site.

Residents of a nearby 26-story building first raised concerns about the construction. They reported that cracks were appearing in the yard surrounding the high-rise, and that these cracks were growing in size.

Previously, “Atomstroykompleks” stated that construction was not immediately stopped because the initial order from the mayor’s office only pertained to the suspension of pile driving, and not a complete work stoppage.

The management company, UZhK “Territoriya-Sever,” previously tried to address the issue by sending letters to various authorities, including the administration, the governor, and the prosecutor’s office.
