Thousands of Muslims in St. Petersburg gathered at mosques on the morning of June 6 to celebrate Eid al-Adha. The celebrations led to the temporary closure of several streets in the city to accommodate worshippers.
Moskovsky Prospekt was specially blocked off for several hours to allow for the festivities. Additional gatherings of Muslims occurred near the Cathedral Mosque on the Petrograd side and near the mosque in the Primorsky district.
The road closures, implemented from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, affected the following streets: Moskovsky Prospekt from the Fontanka embankment to Sadovaya Street; Konny and Krestyansky lanes from Malaya Posadskaya Street to Kronverksky Prospekt; Kronverksky Prospekt from Kuibysheva Street to Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt; and Repishcheva Street from Parashutnaya Street to Verbnaya Street.
