An unusual phenomenon has been observed in St. Petersburg, Russia, where edible mushrooms are growing in the city center, even breaking through asphalt surfaces. The discovery was shared in a video posted on June 10 by the “Mushrooms and Mushroom Pickers of St. Petersburg” online community.
According to Svetlana, the person who recorded the video, this unexpected sight was found near the Mayakovskaya metro station. She expressed her surprise at witnessing mushrooms growing in such an urban environment.
Other reports indicate similar occurrences in the region. One commenter, Nina, noted that a mushroom had also sprouted through asphalt in Gatchina.
This development coincides with a period of active growth for edible mushrooms in the surrounding forests. Orange-cap boletes, chanterelles, and boletes are reportedly emerging in these areas.
