Economic Hardship for Businesses in Anapa Region Due to Oil Spill and Beach Closures

Businesses in the Anapa region, including Anapa, Vityazevo, and Dzhemete, are facing severe economic hardship due to the recent oil spill and subsequent beach closures. Many establishments are struggling to stay afloat, and some have not even opened for the season.

The lack of tourists has had a devastating impact on local businesses. Shop owners, restaurant operators, and guesthouse managers are all reporting significant losses.

A clothing vendor in Dzhemete expressed the desperation of many, stating that work is scarce and survival is a daily struggle. Despite government assurances of support, many businesses claim they have not received adequate assistance.

A shop owner in Dzhemete lamented that her earnings are barely sufficient to cover operational costs. In Vityazevo, while some shops and restaurants have opened, they remain largely empty.

A restaurant owner in Vityazevo described the current business climate as “terrible,” indicating they are operating at a loss. Some guesthouses have drastically reduced prices by as much as 50%, yet occupancy rates remain critically low.

While Chernomorskaya street in Vityazevo maintains some activity, many other streets are lined with closed businesses. The government has implemented support measures, including tax deferrals and microloans, however, businesses argue that these measures are insufficient.

In response to the crisis, business owners have collectively drafted a petition to the government, urgently requesting more substantial aid. Their demands include subsidies, interest-free loans, and extended tax deferrals. Additionally, they are seeking compensation for environmental damage caused by the oil spill and propose the creation of a national fund dedicated to oil spill cleanup efforts.
