A 30-year-old man and his two intoxicated passengers are facing serious legal consequences after attacking traffic police officers in St. Petersburg. The incident occurred on the night of May 28th on Ivanovskaya Street when a traffic police crew stopped the driver for inspection.
The driver, who was without documents and showed signs of intoxication, was pulled over. The situation escalated when the driver and his two passengers exited the vehicle and attacked the officers.
Law enforcement managed to detain the driver at the scene, while the two passengers initially fled. A series of administrative protocols were issued against the driver, including charges for drunk driving and disobeying police orders.
Two days later, the escaped passengers were apprehended by authorities. All three individuals are now under investigation, and the issue of a preventive measure is being determined.
One of the passengers admitted to hitting an officer and fleeing the scene, stating they were provoked by the traffic stop for drunk driving and driving without a license. The other passenger claimed to not understand the reason for their detainment.
The vehicle involved has been impounded. The injured police officers received medical assistance and have since returned to duty.
