Seven people, including three minors, drowned in the Novosibirsk region on June 12th and 13th. The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Novosibirsk Region reported that all the incidents occurred in areas not designated for swimming.
On June 12th, a 6-year-old boy drowned in the Berd River while swimming unsupervised. Rescuers recovered his body. Also on June 12th, a 45-year-old man drowned in a lake in the “Klyuchi-1” garden society. An eyewitness saw him disappear under the water.
On June 13th, five more drowning deaths were recorded. A 13-year-old girl drowned in the Southwest residential area after disappearing in a pit while swimming without adult supervision. In Iskitim, a 13-year-old boy drowned while swimming in the Berd River. In the Suzunsky district, a 19-year-old man drowned while attempting to swim across the Nizhny Suzun River. A 30-year-old man was pulled from the pond of the “Koltsovo” park but died despite resuscitation attempts. Another adult drowned in the Iskitimsky district.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Novosibirsk Region emphasized that all the tragedies happened in areas where swimming is prohibited and marked with warning signs. They added that alcohol intoxication was a contributing factor in two of the adult deaths, and all the deceased children were unsupervised.
On June 9th, an eight-year-old boy drowned in the Berd River, another location where swimming is prohibited.
