Krugets, a dog from Nizhny Novgorod, has died after a long struggle to recover from extreme obesity and abandonment. Volunteers had been caring for him since he was found in critical condition in the fall of 2023.

The dog, an Alabai, was discovered alone on a city street, unable to move due to his excessive weight, estimated at around 100 kg. Rescuers believed he had been deliberately overfed and then abandoned.

Veterinarians stated that they had never seen such a severe case of obesity in an animal. Initially, Krugets was placed on a strict diet and his activity was limited.

Over several months, Krugets began to lose weight, reaching 50 kg by the end of the year. He was described as a calm and affectionate dog who loved human attention.

Krugets required special care due to limb problems and a fear of men. Volunteers were seeking a home for him with a private house and a female owner.

On July 30, volunteers reported that Krugets’s condition had suddenly worsened. He stopped getting up and appeared to be in pain.

Despite veterinary intervention, Krugets passed away quietly in the hospital. He remained under care of volunteers until his death, but sadly, he never found a permanent home.
