Dmitry Peskov Comments on Conflict with Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg

The Kremlin has expressed interest in maintaining positive relations with Azerbaijan following a conflict involving Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg accused of serious crimes. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov addressed the situation, emphasizing the Russian government’s perspective.

Peskov stated that the situation primarily concerns the work of law enforcement agencies and shouldn’t escalate into a diplomatic issue. He mentioned that discussions at a higher level could occur if deemed necessary.

The press secretary expressed regret regarding any actions taken by the Azerbaijani side in response to the events. He underscored the importance of clarifying the reasons and nature of the events that led to the Azerbaijani response.

Peskov reiterated Russia’s commitment to fostering strong relations with Azerbaijan.

Simultaneously, reports indicate that police in Baku are conducting investigative activities at the Sputnik Azerbaijan office. Despite this, the Russian media outlet continues its operations.

The criminal cases related to the Yekaterinburg incident have been transferred to the central office of the Investigative Committee in Moscow for further investigation.

Following the detentions, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a protest and called for a thorough investigation.
