Russian President Vladimir Putin and former US President Donald Trump spoke by phone on June 4 to discuss Ukraine’s strikes on Russian airfields. The conversation, which lasted 1 hour and 10 minutes, also covered other topics related to the conflict in Ukraine and potential cooperation between Russia and the United States.
Putin informed Trump that Ukraine was attempting to disrupt negotiations between the two countries, but that Moscow was not giving in to provocations. He emphasized that the Istanbul talks between Russia and Ukraine were useful but that the Kiev regime had essentially turned into a terrorist organization.
Trump reportedly told Putin that the United States was not informed about the plans to strike Russian airfields.
The two leaders exchanged views on the prospects for restoring cooperation between their countries and agreed to continue contacts on Ukraine at the highest level and through other channels. They described their exchange as positive and productive.
Trump said that Putin stated strongly that he would have to respond to the recent attack on the airfields.
