Director of Supermetal Plant Detained in Moscow Region on Fraud and Precious Metals Charges

Vasily Vasekin, the general director of the “Supermetal” plant and an Honored Chemist of the Russian Federation, was detained in Solnechnogorsk, Moscow region. He was apprehended as he left the hospital.

The Solnechnogorsk Court of the Moscow region had previously issued an arrest warrant in absentia for Vasekin and placed him on a wanted list.

Vasekin is facing accusations of fraud and violating regulations regarding the surrender of precious metals to the state.

He is accused of defrauding his partner, Alexei Bratchenko, of 52 million rubles. Bratchenko had sought to become a co-owner of “Supermetal.”

Additionally, Vasekin is accused of violating the rules for surrendering a precious metal alloy from abroad worth 2.4 billion rubles to the state for refining.

Vasekin’s trial had been temporarily suspended due to his hospitalization in the cardiology department, where he underwent heart surgery.

The “Supermetal” plant has been in operation since 1962, originating from the laboratory of Professor Evgeny Rytvin.

The company produces over 250 types of products made of precious metals for technical and medical applications. Examples include glass-melting apparatus, laboratory glassware, and wire for thermometers.

“Supermetal” also processes various types of precious metal raw materials and is a leading producer of SPA and modern spinneret feeders for the production of glass and basalt fibers.

Vasekin received the title of “Honored Chemist of the Russian Federation” in 2009.
