The director and chief engineer of LLC “MKD Elbrus” have been detained in connection with a fatal accident on the Elbrus cable car. The Investigative Committee of Russia for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic reported the detentions on September 15.

The suspects are being charged with providing services that did not meet safety requirements, resulting in the accidental deaths of multiple people.

On September 12, a cable break on a single-seat cable car led to the deaths of three individuals. Initially, reports indicated two fatalities, but rescuers later discovered the body of a third victim.

The cable car equipment involved in the September 12 accident was operated by LLC “MKD Elbrus,” according to the investigation. The cable car has been closed to the public, and the technical premises of the stations have been sealed off.

Among the deceased were a married couple and a climber, according to reports. Several other individuals sustained injuries as a result of the incident.
