Detention of a Muscovite for Vandalizing St. Petersburg Embankments with Soviet-Era Slogan

A 41-year-old Muscovite has been detained in St. Petersburg for allegedly vandalizing city embankments and bridges with the Soviet-era slogan “Peace to the world.” The suspect, identified as Andrei, is accused of causing damage to granite surfaces across nine locations in the city.

The inscriptions, which appeared in early June, prompted an investigation leading to Andrei’s arrest by Center “E” and the criminal investigation department of the Central District. Authorities estimate that a single inscription on the embankment alone caused 23,000 rubles in damage to the city, according to Mostotrest.

Following his detention, Andrei was released on recognizance. During the arrest, law enforcement officials seized mobile phones, a bank card, and clothing potentially bearing traces of paint.

Center “E” is continuing to investigate the man’s activities for potential signs of extremism. The investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement and motivations behind the inscriptions.
