St. Petersburg has approved the design for a new “Dance Palace” dedicated to wheelchair dancing, set to be built next to the Center for Adaptive Sports in the Primorsky district. Governor Alexander Beglov announced the project on June 4, highlighting the city’s commitment to supporting athletes with disabilities.
The new sports complex will be situated on Kamyshovaya Street, at its intersection with Yakhtennaya Street, specifically at 39 Yakhtennaya Street, the same location as the existing Center for Adaptive Sports which opened in 2024. This center already provides training facilities for a wide range of adaptive sports, including powerlifting, volleyball, wheelchair football, basketball, floorball, swimming, yoga, fitness, joint gymnastics, and boccia.
Plans for the “Dance Palace” were unveiled shortly after the inauguration of the main adaptive sports center. The design phase is expected to conclude in 2025, with construction slated to commence in 2026.
Governor Beglov emphasized the popularity of wheelchair dancing in St. Petersburg, stating, “Wheelchair dancing is a popular sport in St. Petersburg. We traditionally host the Russian Championships in this sport. We are creating a new center so that anyone can train in the best conditions.”
The construction of the “Dance Palace” will involve an investment of 7.9 billion rubles.
