Mikhail Litvin, a popular blogger, will no longer be exempt from military service after an inspection revealed irregularities in the process by which he obtained his military ID. The decision to overturn his private military rank and exemption was announced by Ekaterina Mizulina, head of the Safe Internet League, on June 6th, referencing an official response from the Moscow Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation, triggered by Litvin’s prior admission of purchasing a military ID, found that his registration for military service and subsequent exemption violated the law. The Moscow City Military Prosecutor’s Office determined that Litvin was improperly exempted from conscription on June 18, 2018, and enrolled in the Armed Forces reserve.
Furthermore, Litvin is now facing potential criminal charges related to document forgery. He is being investigated under Part 3 of Article 327 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which addresses the forgery of documents and carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison.
The scrutiny of Litvin’s military status began in the fall of 2024, following his 13-day arrest for an altercation with football fans. During a show in 2018, Litvin openly admitted to purchasing his military ID for 300,000 rubles.
