A section of the St. Andrew’s flag, which flies atop the Admiralty building in St. Petersburg, was torn off by strong winds on June 1st. Observers noted that the edge of the flag was ripped and continued to flap in the wind.
Wind gusts reached speeds of up to 20 meters per second. Despite the strong winds, the city has not experienced widespread damage typically associated with such weather conditions, with trees remaining upright and roofs intact.
The St. Andrew’s flag was raised over the Admiralty building on October 31, 2012, coinciding with the official relocation of the Main Headquarters of the Russian Navy to St. Petersburg.
