Criminal Case Opened After Elevator Incident in St. Petersburg

A criminal case has been launched in St. Petersburg following an elevator malfunction in a residential building on Nastavnikov Avenue. The Investigative Committee of St. Petersburg announced the opening of the case on June 16.

The incident, which occurred on June 15, involved an elevator in a residential building. According to reports, two women were inside the elevator cabin when it began to fall.

The women were able to prevent serious injury by pressing the “cancel” button. Authorities confirmed that their lives and health are not currently at risk.

The Krasnogvardeisky district investigators have initiated a case under Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, which concerns the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements. An investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the technical condition of the elevator equipment.

The incident took place at Nastavnikov, 36 building 2, a 23-story building constructed in 2004 in the Krasnogvardeisky district. The building is managed by the homeowner association “Udarnik”. Resident complaints on the “Our St. Petersburg” portal include defective elevator lighting, unsatisfactory condition of the front entrance, and non-compliance with the cleaning schedule.
