A 15-year-old has been charged with committing a terrorist act after allegedly setting fire to a police officer’s car in St. Petersburg. The incident occurred on Zakharievskaya Street, and authorities are seeking to have the teenager detained.
The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg announced the charges on June 7th. According to the investigation, on June 5th, the teenager acted on instructions received through a messenger app from unidentified individuals. He allegedly poured flammable liquid on the hood of the car, parked at Zakharievskaya Street, 19, and ignited it, believing it contained an explosive device.
The Investigative Committee stated that the car caught fire as a result of his actions, and the suspect was apprehended at the scene by witnesses.
Reportedly, the targeted vehicle belonged to an employee of the Center for Financial Support of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The car was parked near the department building. The arson was captured on video.
It has been suggested that the teenager was manipulated by fraudsters who posed as authorities and threatened him with being placed in an orphanage.
