Criminal Case Against Rolls-Royce Driver Overturned Due to Lack of Intent

The criminal case against Sergei Sosorev, the driver of a Rolls-Royce involved in an accident with a motorcyclist, has been dismissed by the Krasnoselsky district prosecutor’s office in St. Petersburg. The prosecutor’s office cited a lack of evidence demonstrating intent to kill.

Originally, the Investigative Committee initiated the case, alleging that Sosorev intentionally ran over the motorcyclist on the Peterhof highway amidst “suddenly arising hostile relations,” with the intent to cause his death. However, the prosecutor’s office found no objective confirmation of this claim.

The investigation materials lacked key elements, including interrogations of eyewitnesses and the person who called the ambulance. Crucially, the documents indicated that Sosorev remained at the scene after the accident and did not attempt to further harm the victim.

Currently, Sosorev faces charges only for violating traffic rules resulting in serious harm through negligence, a case initiated by the police. This stems from the May 31 incident at the intersection of Pogranichnika Garkavogo Street and Peterhof Highway, where his Rolls-Royce, while making a U-turn, collided with a Harley-Davidson and subsequently ran over the motorcyclist.

The 35-year-old motorcyclist was hospitalized in serious condition and was being prepared for shoulder surgery as of June 3, when his condition was assessed as moderately severe. It has been reported that Sosorev, a 37-year-old businessman, has a history of traffic violations, accumulating over 40 infractions in a single year.
