Court Orders Detention for Suspects in Attack on St. Petersburg Traffic Police

The Nevsky District Court has ordered the detention of all three suspects involved in the May 28th attack on traffic police officers on Ivanovskaya Street in St. Petersburg. This decision, announced on June 2nd, affects the driver and two passengers of a Renault Logan.

The incident began when police stopped the vehicle for a routine document check and discovered the driver was intoxicated. The 30-year-old driver and his two passengers then allegedly attacked the officers.

The driver was initially detained, while his accomplices fled the scene. A search was launched, and the two passengers were apprehended two days later.

Following the initial detention, the driver was given a ban on certain actions as a preventive measure, including restrictions on communicating with others involved in the case. However, during a subsequent raid on the accomplices’ residence, police found the driver present, leading to his re-arrest and the insistence on a stricter preventive measure.

Consequently, the court ruled that all three individuals will be held in pre-trial detention as the investigation continues into the use of violence against a government official, a crime under Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
