Court Orders Detention for Man Accused of Rape in St Petersburg

A 36-year-old man, Elorzhon Boltaboev, has been remanded in custody following accusations of rape in St. Petersburg. The Kuibyshev District Court ordered the detention, which will last until July 28.

The investigation indicates the incident occurred on the night of May 29 on Borovaya Street. Boltaboev allegedly attacked a 41-year-old woman in a courtyard around 00:53, using force against her.

A local resident’s alertness led to the suspect’s swift apprehension. Hearing the victim’s cries, the resident contacted the police, who then detained Boltaboev, a resident of Konstantin Zaslonov Street. He is reported to be living in the city without registration or formal employment.

The victim, originally from Tajikistan, claims the attacker also stole 30,000 rubles from her bag. Medical professionals examined her the same night. Boltaboev, a citizen of Uzbekistan, has reportedly confessed to the crime and faces charges under Part 2 of Article 131 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (rape).
