Court Finds Mother Guilty in Infant’s Death Due to Negligence

Parvina Baitemirova has been found guilty of causing the death of her newborn son through negligence, according to a statement released on June 17th by the joint press service of the St. Petersburg courts. The Pushkin District Court delivered the verdict after determining that Baitemirova’s actions directly contributed to the infant’s death.

The tragic sequence of events began on July 15, 2024, when Baitemirova gave birth to a son. She did not register the birth and against medical advice, took the baby home from the hospital the following day, disregarding warnings about potential health risks to the newborn.

For six months, Baitemirova failed to seek medical care for her child. She neglected to take him to pediatricians or provide adequate treatment when he fell ill, and crucially, she did not call for an ambulance. On February 26, the infant died. The cause of death was determined to be primary pulmonary tuberculosis.

During the legal proceedings, Baitemirova pleaded guilty to the charges. The court, considering the case under a special procedure, imposed a fine of 100,000 rubles. Taking into account the time Baitemirova spent in custody, the court reduced the fine to 70,000 rubles.
