Court Considers Pre-Trial Restrictions for Rolls-Royce Driver in Biker Accident Case

A St. Petersburg court is currently deliberating pre-trial restrictions for the driver of a Rolls-Royce involved in an accident that severely injured a motorcyclist. The Krasnoselsky District Court began considering the matter on June 4th.

Sergei Sosorev, the Rolls-Royce driver, addressed the press after consulting with his lawyer, stating that he had contacted the injured motorcyclist, compensated him for the damages, and apologized to his family. He also publicly apologized for the accident.

Sosorev claims that the incident was a result of carelessness and was purely accidental.

The accident occurred on May 31st at the intersection of Pogranichnika Garkavogo Street and Peterhof Highway. A Rolls-Royce collided with a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and the motorcyclist was subsequently run over. The 35-year-old biker sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized.

The driver of the Rolls-Royce, identified as a 37-year-old businessman, had a history of traffic violations, accumulating over 40 fines in the past year.

Initially, the case was investigated as a violation of traffic rules and attempted murder. However, prosecutors did not find evidence of intent to kill. Consequently, charges were brought under articles related to violation of traffic rules resulting in serious harm to health, and intentional infliction of serious harm to health.

During the hearing, the lawyer requested the removal of journalists from the courtroom, citing concerns that sensitive information might be leaked to the media.
