The main earthworks for the interchange connecting the M-11 Neva highway to Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg have been completed, with plans to connect the road to the airport by the end of next year. The interchange is located at the 681st kilometer of the highway.
Builders have finished the primary work on the roadbed construction and fully installed the foundations for the overpass supports at the intersection with Pulkovo Highway. Embankments for the connecting road and ramps are also complete.
The interchange includes three overpasses: two over Pulkovo Highway, totaling 614 meters in length, and one 55-meter overpass over the M-11. Construction crews are currently finishing the supports, after which they will begin installing the span structure beams and building reinforced concrete slabs.
The interchange will feature outdoor lighting and an automated traffic management system for real-time monitoring and prompt driver information regarding road conditions and events.
The project aims to reduce travel time to and from the airport by providing direct highway access, and it also seeks to alleviate traffic congestion on Pulkovo Highway during peak hours. The interchange is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026.
