Construction has commenced on the first tunnels of Moscow’s new Biryulyovskaya metro line, with the initial stations expected to open in 2028. Mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced the start of this significant infrastructure project.
The first tunnel is being built between the “Dream Island” station, which connects to the “Tekhnopark” station on the green line, and the “Klenovy Boulevard” station, offering a transfer to the Big Circle Line (BCL). This right tunnel will span 1.67 kilometers with a diameter of 6 meters.
Shortly after, tunneling will begin on the parallel left tunnel between the same stations. Tunneling between “Dream Island” and “Klenovy Boulevard” is scheduled for completion by spring 2026, with work taking place beneath the Moscow River.
The Biryulyovskaya line will be rolled out in two phases. The section from ZIL to Kuryanovo, encompassing four stations, is slated for completion in 2028, while the Kuryanovo to Biryulyovo segment, featuring six stations, is projected to be finished by 2030.
The new 22-kilometer line will extend from the ZIL station, providing connections to the Moscow Central Circle (MCC) and Troitskaya lines, through areas including Dream Island, Klenovy Boulevard, Kuryanovo, and Moskvorechye, ultimately reaching Tsaritsyno and Biryulyovo. Planned stations include “Kavkazsky Boulevard,” “Kaspiyskaya,” “Lipetskaya,” “Lebedyanskaya,” and “Biryulyovo,” the latter offering a transfer to the Paveletskoye railway direction. Construction of the first three stations along the line has already started.
Initially, the line will be serviced by the Yuzhnoye electric depot, transitioning to the Biryulyovskoye depot from 2030 onward. Furthermore, there are plans to potentially extend the Biryulyovskaya line from Biryulyovo toward the Kievskoye highway through New Moscow, with potential stations in Lopatino and Drozhzhino in the Moscow region.
