Construction Foreman to be Tried for Bricklayer’s Fatal Fall in Novosibirsk

A construction foreman will face trial for allegedly causing the death of a bricklayer in Novosibirsk. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Novosibirsk region has concluded its investigation into the case.

The incident took place on January 22nd at a construction site in the Zaeltsovsky district. A bricklayer fell from the eighth floor while laying bricks and died at the scene.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the 23-year-old foreman is responsible for the tragedy. He is charged with violating safety regulations during construction work, resulting in death by negligence under Part 2 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.

Investigators stated that the foreman failed to ensure safe working conditions at height. This included not providing workers with adequate personal protective equipment and failing to properly install protective fencing and safety signage.

The Zaeltsovsky District Court of Novosibirsk will hear the case. This incident follows a separate case in May where management at a gold mining enterprise in the Maslyaninsky district allegedly attempted to conceal a worker’s death.
