Construction Begins on Right Tunnel of Biryulyovskaya Metro Line in Moscow

Construction of the right tunnel for Moscow’s new Biryulyovskaya metro line, connecting the “Ostrov Mechty” and “Klenovy Bulvar” stations, has officially commenced. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin announced the start of the project on June 18th via his Telegram channel.

The Biryulyovskaya line, spanning 22 kilometers, will consist of 10 stations and 2 tunnels. The first three stations, namely “ZIL,” “Ostrov Mechty,” and “Klenovy Bulvar,” are currently under construction.

The construction of the left tunnel is scheduled to begin in the coming months, with both tunnels expected to be completed by the spring of 2026.

The Biryulyovskaya line’s opening will be phased. The segment from “ZIL” to “Kuryanovo,” encompassing four stations, is slated to open in 2028. The remaining portion of the line extending to Biryulyovo is projected to be operational by 2030.

Initially, train services will be managed by the Yuzhnoye electric depot. Starting in 2030, the Biryulyovskoye depot will assume responsibility for servicing the line.
