Competition Announced for Reconstruction of St. Petersburg Marine Station Building

A competition has been announced for the reconstruction of the Marine Station building in St. Petersburg, with a maximum cost of 80 million rubles and a 930-day completion timeframe. The Passenger Port of St. Petersburg “Marine Facade” JSC is overseeing the project.

The reconstruction aims to address physical deterioration, strengthen the building’s structure, and modernize its engineering networks. The plans include repairs to the facade, roof, tower, atriums, and staircases, alongside a redevelopment of the interior spaces to increase leasable area and alter the building’s functional purpose.

The building’s layout is planned to be reorganized to accommodate a variety of functions. The basement and ground floor will house technical and storage rooms, while the upper floors will feature a mix of retail space, offices, lobbies, common areas, a conference hall, a hotel (on the 5th-7th floors), and exhibition galleries. The reconstruction will largely preserve the building’s existing architectural style, with the exception of the addition of new entrances.

The decision to reconstruct the Marine Station comes after it was identified as a potential cultural heritage site. There have been previous plans for the building’s renovation, including an agreement signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to convert the terminal into a hotel and public space. However, the city authorities later announced that they would undertake the repairs themselves.
