Closure of Vestibule at “Ploshchad Lenina” Metro Station for Turnstile Installation

A vestibule at Novosibirsk’s “Ploshchad Lenina” metro station will be closed for nearly two weeks in June to facilitate the installation of new turnstiles, according to the city mayor’s office.

Vestibule number 2, located on the side of the city hall, will be inaccessible to passengers from June 16 to June 28.

During this period, commuters can utilize vestibule number 1 for entering and exiting the station. Additionally, the underpass connecting entrances 3 and 4 will remain open and operational.

The closure follows the recent reopening of vestibule number 1 on May 24, which had been closed since May 13 for a similar turnstile replacement project.

Maxim Serebrennikov, First Deputy Head of the Novosibirsk Metro, stated that the new turnstiles are designed with improved safety features. He further indicated that the system is prepared for future integration of QR code payment options and biometric identification. The expected lifespan of the new turnstiles is approximately 30 years.

This announcement comes shortly after an incident at the “Studencheskaya” metro station where a person fell onto the tracks.
