Chemistry OGE Exam Sparks Controversy Over Incorrect Answer Keys

Ninth-grade students and their parents in Yekaterinburg are disputing the results of the chemistry portion of the OGE (Main State Exam) taken on May 26, alleging errors in the answer keys for tasks 18 and 19. According to complaints, the system marked correct answers as incorrect, leading to a loss of two primary points out of a possible 38 for students who correctly solved the problems.

Parents and students are concerned that the incorrect scoring could negatively impact final grades and opportunities for advancement to the 10th grade and specialized schools. Numerous appeals have been made to the E1.RU editorial office, highlighting the discrepancy between the tasks and the official answer keys.

Experts, including Alexander Ivanov, a nuclear physicist from UrFU, have reviewed the tasks and confirmed that students’ solutions were accurate. According to Ivanov, the answer to task 18 is 39, and the answer to task 19 is 4, when rounded to the nearest integer.

A chemistry teacher, Maria Vlasova, also supports that students solved the problems correctly. She noted that the issue might stem from the way the answer was written.

Appeals can be filed within two working days from the date of the official announcement of the OGE results for this subject to the regional information processing center.
