A ceiling collapse occurred in an apartment building in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on Kosinova Street, Narvskaya Zastava district, posing a risk to residents. The incident took place in an apartment on the top floor of the two-story building, constructed in 1949.
A woman inside the apartment narrowly avoided injury when a large section of plaster fell from the ceiling, landing on the sofa where she was sleeping. The collapse occurred the day before it was reported by a resident on Friday, June 6th.
The condition of the building is a major concern, with residents fearing further collapses. According to residents, the roof was renovated in 2018, but the underlying wooden joists remain dilapidated. The building is part of a renovation program, which has been suspended until 2029.
Representatives from ZhKS No. 2 of the Kirovsky district attributed the collapse to a missing metal screed and the lack of repairs by the owners. However, residents dispute this claim, citing the poor condition of the wooden beams and walls. Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) employees who inspected the site highlighted the dilapidated state of the structures and the absence of major repairs as the primary causes. The administration of the Kirovsky district confirmed the collapse and stated that no injuries were reported.
