A Chevrolet Niva drove onto a pedestrian walkway in Novosibirsk on July 29th at approximately 23:14, and the driver subsequently left the scene. The incident occurred on Voskhod Street.
According to eyewitness Polina Knyazeva, the car was turning from Zyryanovskaya Street onto Voskhod Street when it failed to make the turn. The vehicle then drove onto the pedestrian walkway, striking a fence and a trash can before coming to a stop. Fortunately, no pedestrians were present in the area at the time.
Knyazeva and other witnesses approached the vehicle after the incident. They found two men inside, estimated to be between 45 and 50 years old. The driver reportedly exited the car with an almost empty bottle of alcohol and left the scene. The passenger also departed shortly thereafter.
An ambulance arrived at the scene approximately five minutes after being called. By that time, the driver was gone, but the passenger had returned. Paramedics examined the passenger, determined that he had no injuries, and then left.
The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Novosibirsk Region is currently clarifying the details of the incident, after a request for comment.
