Brown Bear Spotted Eating Goutweed Like a Cow in Leningrad Region

A brown bear was recently spotted eating goutweed near the Kovashi River in the Sosnovy Bor area of the Leningrad region. Kayakers from St. Petersburg witnessed the scene.

Konstantin Shamraev filmed the bear in the Lomonosov district. The footage, shared by biologist Pavel Glazkov on his “Every Creature a Pair” channel on June 6th, shows the bear focused on its meal.

The bear seemed unbothered by the nearby tourists. According to Glazkov, the bear was completely absorbed in enjoying its “favorite spring delicacy.”

Goutweed makes up a significant portion of the bear’s diet, approximately three-quarters. The plant is also edible and used in salads by people.

Glazkov reminds people that approaching any wild animal, especially a bear, is dangerous. He cautions that a bear can become aggressive at any moment.
