A bridge collapse in the Bryansk region of Russia has caused a train derailment, resulting in casualties and the closure of a major highway. The incident occurred near the village of Vygonichi at 10:44 PM, when a passenger train traveling from Klimov to Moscow struck the collapsed structure.
The Moscow Railway (MZhD) has stated that the bridge collapse was caused by illegal interference in transport operations. An investigation into the incident is underway, led by the prosecutor’s office.
The crash resulted in casualties, but the exact number is still being clarified. Early reports indicate that the train driver has died and one child is in serious condition.
The A-240 highway in the Bryansk region has been closed to traffic due to the destruction of the overpass. Rosavtodor reported the closure following the collapse.
Russian Railways (RZhD) has established an operational headquarters to manage the situation, and the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MChS) is on-site providing assistance. Additional fire and rescue units, along with equipment, have been dispatched to the area, including light towers to facilitate nighttime operations.
Recovery trains have been sent to the scene to address the aftermath of the derailment. The Moscow Railway has clarified that the incident is not affecting the movement of other trains.
The Moscow Transport Prosecutor’s Office is also conducting an investigation into the incident. The prosecutor’s office has stated that it is monitoring the rights of railway passengers affected by the event.
