Recovery efforts are underway in the Bryansk region after a bridge collapse that resulted in casualties and rail disruptions. Rescuers have successfully removed the locomotive and three carriages from the tracks, and are now focusing on clearing the remains of the bridge itself.
The incident, which occurred on the night of June 1st, involved a bridge being blown up, causing part of the road and a truck to fall onto the railway tracks as a train was passing. Tragically, seven people died, and 73 were injured, with over 50 currently hospitalized.
Russian Railways reports that approximately 200 personnel, including rescuers, railway workers, and other service providers, are working to clear the site. The remnants of the bridge had to be detonated, and the focus is now on removing the concrete debris from the tracks.
The bridge collapse has led to temporary changes in train routes. Train 490 Minsk – Anapa has been rerouted, and the route of train 86 has been shortened to Bryansk, where passengers are then transported by buses.
A similar incident occurred in the Kursk region, where concrete blocks are being removed from the tracks after an explosion on a railway bridge. In this case, a freight train derailed, injuring the driver and two assistants. However, the movement of long-distance trains was not affected, with only the electric train schedule temporarily altered.
