A bridge collapse in the Bryansk region of Russia on June 1st caused a passenger train to derail, resulting in injuries and fatalities. Initial reports indicate that at least four people have died.
The incident occurred when a passenger train was passing under the bridge at the time of the collapse. The train, identified as passenger train No. 86 traveling from Klimov to Moscow, derailed due to the fallen debris.
Authorities have closed traffic on the A-240 highway in the Bryansk region due to the destruction of the overpass. Recovery trains have been dispatched to the scene to address the damage and clear the area.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations is providing temporary accommodation for all passengers affected by the bridge collapse. Rescuers are actively working to clear debris and extract passengers from the wrecked train.
Eyewitness accounts suggest that people immediately assisted each other following the collapse. Among the injured is reportedly a baby in serious condition.
Bryansk regional authorities are prepared to transport seriously injured patients to Moscow via air ambulance, following doctors’ recommendations. All necessary orders have been issued to facilitate this transfer.
The Moscow Railway attributed the collapse to “illegal interference in transport operations.” The exact number of casualties is still being determined.
