A bridge collapse in the Bryansk region of Russia on the night of June 1st caused a passenger train to derail, resulting in casualties and injuries. The incident affected the Klimovo-Moscow train, which was carrying 388 passengers.
Seven people died as a result of the incident. Among the injured are three children, including an eight-month-old baby boy.
According to the Governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, the bridge was allegedly detonated. Bogomaz stated that two passengers are in serious condition, including the infant who will be transferred to Moscow for treatment.
47 people were hospitalized and a total of 66 people were reported injured. The Moscow Railway attributed the derailment to “illegal interference in the operation of transport.”
The debris from the collapsed bridge fell onto the train, causing it to derail. The incident has led to a significant traffic jam and suspension of train traffic in the area. Russian Railways is working to adjust train routes and restore traffic.
Passengers were transported from Bryansk to Moscow via a backup train, with an expected arrival time of 10:40 Moscow time. Medical teams and psychologists are present at the Kievsky railway station to provide assistance.
