Boy Injured in Gorky Park Zip Line Accident, Parents Seek Accountability

A 10-year-old boy suffered a concussion and missed a month of school after falling from a zip line in Gorky Park in April 2024, prompting his parents to seek compensation and accountability from the park’s management. The incident occurred when the zip line cable broke while the boy was using the attraction on a playground.

The boy’s father, Klim Likhachev, has been pursuing legal action for over a year, alleging negligence and seeking to hold Gorky Park responsible for the injuries sustained by his son. The parents are seeking compensation for the moral damage caused by the accident.

According to Likhachev, the accident occurred on April 10, 2024, when his son Vanya was playing on the zip line with his mother. The zip line cable suddenly snapped, causing Vanya to fall and lose consciousness briefly. He was taken to the hospital and diagnosed with a concussion and a bruised shoulder.

Following the incident, Likhachev contacted various authorities, including the Ministry of Culture, the Prosecutor’s Office, and the Investigative Committee, seeking an investigation into the park’s management. He claims that Gorky Park has been uncooperative, refusing to provide surveillance footage of the incident and initially rejecting their claims.

Despite the park’s claims that inspections had been carried out and no defects were found shortly before the accident, Likhachev believes that the playground may have been improperly operated or that the safety measures were inadequate. He questioned the softness of the playground’s rubber covering, suggesting it may have contributed to his son’s injuries.

Likhachev filed a lawsuit in court seeking compensation for the moral damage caused by the accident. After initial setbacks, the case has been accepted for consideration, with the next hearing scheduled for June 30. Likhachev anticipates that the legal proceedings may continue for several months.
