A 20-year-old woman’s body was discovered in the Shelekhov district of the Irkutsk region, leading to a criminal investigation into her death. The body, showing signs of violent death, was found on July 8 on the property of a house in the village of Bolshoy Lug.
Investigators have launched a case under Part 1 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (murder) and are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. A forensic medical examination has been ordered, and witnesses are being questioned as part of the investigation.
The woman had traveled to the regional center to apply to the College of Economics and Law. After arriving, she contacted her mother to report that she was safe, but subsequently stopped communicating. Concerned, relatives contacted the police and went to the home of her 22-year-old boyfriend. There, they found her belongings and phone, as well as a freshly dug grave near the house containing her body.
Reportedly, the woman had argued with her boyfriend the day before her trip to the college. He opposed her plans to study for a driver’s license and insisted she visit him. The couple had been dating for about a year, but had been arguing frequently recently.
On July 9, authorities detained the 22-year-old man in the Kursk region. He was apprehended by police at a checkpoint while traveling to visit his brother and will be transported to the Angara region.
