Bashkir Village Wins “Sober Village” Competition and Plans to Improve Infrastructure

Bayrakatuba, a small village in Bashkiria with a population of 90, won the “Sober Village” competition and received a cash prize of 1.5 million rubles to improve local infrastructure. The village plans to use the funds, along with an additional 100,000 rubles from the district, to repair the main road, which is currently in poor condition.

The “Sober Village” project aims to combat alcohol abuse and promote healthy lifestyles in rural communities. Bayrakatuba was recognized for its commitment to sobriety, with residents claiming that heavy drinking is rare and that the village lacks a store selling alcohol.

While visiting Bayrakatuba, reporters found that residents expressed pride in their village’s sobriety and highlighted the positive impact of the “Sober Village” program. The program has encouraged community engagement and provided resources for improvement projects. Locals are planning to construct a playground, move a fence near the river to create a recreational area, and potentially install gazebos for community gatherings.

Despite the challenges of rural life, such as limited job opportunities and access to services, residents of Bayrakatuba emphasize the importance of community spirit and hard work. Many commute to nearby towns or cities for employment, while others engage in farming, beekeeping, and other local businesses. The village is supplied with essential utilities like water and gas, although residents noted past issues related to gas line installation.

The “Sober Village” initiative has fostered a sense of unity and purpose among residents, encouraging them to work together to enhance their community. Locals are optimistic about the future of Bayrakatuba and are committed to maintaining its sober environment while improving the quality of life for all residents.
