Moscow and the surrounding region experienced a powerful hurricane, torrential rain, and strong winds on Sunday, June 1st, leading to hazardous conditions across the area. Weather forecasters predict the adverse weather will persist into the following day.
Authorities have issued a yellow weather warning for Moscow, anticipating continued thunderstorms. In response to the severe weather, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has released an emergency alert.
The heavy rains manifested differently across the city. Some areas experienced rainfall so intense that it resembled a wall of water, while strong winds caused trees to bend precariously.
Motorists faced challenges due to reduced visibility caused by the storm. On Sudostroitelnaya Street, a tree succumbed to the strong winds and broke. At VDNKh, the sudden downpour disrupted the sunny weather, forcing visitors to seek shelter under umbrellas and raincoats.
The inclement weather also impacted celebrations in the Moscow region. In Odintsovo, heavy rain interrupted Children’s Day festivities, as people sought refuge from the downpour. In Chertanovo, residents responded to the unusual weather with humor, collecting pans full of hail.
