Elmar Mamedov, a 19-year-old Azerbaijani citizen, has been remanded in custody on charges of armed hooliganism after allegedly stabbing his pregnant cohabitant in St. Petersburg. The Oktyabrsky District Court ordered his pre-trial detention on June 9th.

The incident occurred on the night of May 30th near a building on Pskovskaya Street. Mamedov, reportedly acting out of “hooligan motives,” stabbed his 25-week pregnant cohabitant in the abdomen and leg.

The victim, a resident of St. Petersburg, was hospitalized and is reported to be in moderately severe condition.

Mamedov was detained on June 8th and subsequently charged. He requested a less severe form of restraint, but the court sided with the investigation’s request to keep him in pre-trial detention.

Mamedov will remain in custody until at least August 7th.
