Auctions Announced for Tram and Trolleybus Transportation in St Petersburg

St. Petersburg’s “Organizer of Transportation” has announced auctions for the provision of tram and trolleybus transportation services in the city. These contracts are expected to be signed with “Gorelektrotrans.”

The auctions were officially announced on June 18.

The trolleybus contract is estimated at a maximum price of 12.729 billion rubles and includes fifty routes. Two new routes, No. 51 (“Svetlanovsky Ave. – Tolubeevsky Passage”) and 52 (“Staraya Derevnya Metro Station – Parashyutnaya St., 60”), will be added. These routes, known as “Zhenechka” and “Katyusha,” will be served by trolleybuses with extended autonomous running capabilities in the Vyborgsky and Primorsky districts.

The tram contract is estimated at 18.352 billion rubles and includes the current routes. However, route number 15 is notably absent. This route is planned to be launched during the closure of the Park Pobedy metro station, though it has not yet been approved.

The contracts will be valid for just over a year, with services expected to commence on July 16.

Under the new “gross” system, Gorelektrotrans will retain revenue and receive a fixed payment for its transport work. The city will no longer provide a subsidy from the budget to cover the expenses of the enterprise.

Previously, Passazhiravtotrans transitioned to this scheme, agreeing to single supplier status without bidding. Although an auction has been announced for trams and trolleybuses, the outcome is anticipated.
