Attempt to Tow Sunken Tree Down River in St. Petersburg

A sunken tree, dislodged from the Chyornaya Rechka (Black River), caused a stir in St. Petersburg after an attempt to tow it down the Malaya Nevka River failed. The incident occurred on the afternoon of June 4th in the Petrogradsky district, where a boat was seen struggling to move the large tree against the current.

According to an eyewitness, Vladimir, the towing attempt proved unsuccessful, with the boat remaining stationary despite its efforts. Ultimately, the vessel docked at ‘River House’ on Aptekarskaya Embankment.

The Committee for Nature Use, Environmental Protection and Ecological Safety of St. Petersburg stated that the tree had fallen into the Chyornaya Rechka. SPb GBU “Ekostroy,” a subordinate organization, undertook the task of removing the tree. The initial plan involved cutting the tree and towing it by water, but the tree’s weight presented a significant challenge.

Authorities are now awaiting a more powerful boat to complete the transportation of the heavy tree. The incident highlights the difficulties encountered when dealing with large, submerged objects in the city’s waterways.
