Anya Zholud, a prominent artist also known as Anna Zheludkovskaya, has died at the age of 44 in the Moscow region. The Moscow PA Gallery, where her exhibition “Paragraph” is currently running, confirmed her death.
The gallery expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the artist, with co-founder Elena Parshina describing it as a great honor to have worked with her for the gallery’s six-year existence. Zholud was remembered as an extremely talented and amazing person.
Zholud had been living in the village of Arinino in the Moscow region recently. Her exhibition, which opened on May 22, continues to hold events, including those scheduled for June 5.
The “Paragraph” exhibition description on the gallery’s website revealed that Zholud had been hospitalized in serious condition in April and had stopped communicating. Before losing contact, she repeatedly mentioned the word “paragraph” and expressed her desire to open the project in early May. The exhibition features abstract sculptures made of metal rods, reflecting the artist’s sudden isolation.
Zholud’s work has been recognized with multiple nominations for prestigious awards, including three nominations for the Innovation Prize and three for the Kandinsky Prize. In 2009, she participated in the Venice Biennale of Contemporary Art.
Anya Zholud received her education at the St. Petersburg Art School named after N.K. Roerich and the St. Petersburg State Art and Industry Academy named after A.L. Stieglitz.
Her works are included in the collections of major institutions such as the Hermitage, the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, and the State Center for Contemporary Art.
