Pavel Golubev has been arrested in St. Petersburg by the Petrodvorets District Court, accused of attempting to commit fraud involving 1.35 million rubles.

Golubev allegedly impersonated an employee of the military prosecutor’s office and the FSB to deceive his victim.

The joint press service of the St. Petersburg courts reported the arrest on July 31.

According to the investigation, Golubev, along with unidentified accomplices, persuaded the victim to transfer money under the false pretense of ensuring its safety between July 28 and July 30.

The victim handed over 1.35 million rubles to Golubev through a courier.

However, the crime was thwarted when police officers from the Petrodvorets district detained the suspect and recovered the funds.

On July 31, Golubev was charged under the article on fraud on an especially large scale (part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

Golubev’s defense requested a preventive measure not involving arrest, emphasizing his lack of prior criminal record and absence of intent to pressure the victim.

The court, however, ordered his detention until September 29.
