A 46-year-old former cook was detained after threatening patrons at a bar in St. Petersburg with a Saiga rifle early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at “KultBar” on Lunacharsky Avenue in the Vyborgsky district.

Police were called to the scene around 1:30 AM after a report of a man threatening to shoot people. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect already subdued on the floor.

The altercation began as a drunken conversation between the former cook and another ex-colleague. The situation escalated, leading the man to leave and return with a firearm and threats.

A 59-year-old bar patron intervened, striking the armed man over the head with a tray. The quick action disarmed the former cook, and other customers assisted in restraining him until law enforcement arrived.

Authorities confiscated the Saiga rifle and approximately two dozen cartridges. The former cook was initially charged with petty hooliganism, but faces the possibility of further criminal charges.
