Anapa Beaches Face Summer Season Threat Due to Oil Spill

Anapa’s beaches are currently grappling with the repercussions of a December oil spill, casting a shadow over the 2025 summer season and leading to official bans on water activities at the resort. Despite health warnings and restrictions, individuals are disregarding these advisories, continuing to swim and sunbathe in the affected areas.

The presence of lingering oil patches on the beaches and in the sea has prompted the identification of hazardous zones in Anapa, complicating efforts to mitigate the pollution. While a recent regulation addresses these zones, it lacks specific details regarding their location. City Hall clarified that the ban applies specifically to beaches, not embankments, while enforcement measures and penalties for violations remain unclear.

The regional government is promoting alternative attractions, such as wine routes and upscale hotels with pools, to entice tourists. However, tour operators are reporting a decline in bookings. Some hotels are choosing to remain closed this season to mitigate potential financial losses. The impact is most pronounced for private homeowners, who are experiencing a sharp decline in demand for room rentals.
