Amur Tiger Cub Rescued from Illegal Possession Arrives in St. Petersburg

An Amur tiger cub has been rescued from illegal possession and arrived in St. Petersburg on May 30th, where it will undergo quarantine and veterinary examinations. The two-month-old cub was seized from a resident of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) at the request of Rosprirodnadzor (Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources).

The tiger cub is now residing in the “Tiger House.”

Dmitry Kim, founder of the hospice where the cub is being cared for, stated that the animal was confiscated from an owner who kept it domestically, alongside numerous other animal species. Concerns exist regarding potential disease incubation and the cub’s past diet. The rescue was conducted swiftly to ensure the animal’s well-being.

According to Kim, the cub behaved well during the journey to St. Petersburg.

Rosprirodnadzor has emphasized that the illegal capture and possession of animals listed in the Red Book of Russia are strictly forbidden and can lead to criminal charges. Experts currently assess the cub’s condition as satisfactory, as it remains in quarantine.
