Aeroflot Cancels and Delays Flights After Hacker Attack

Aeroflot experienced significant flight disruptions, canceling 53 flights to Sheremetyevo Airport on July 29, with 22 of those being departures. This follows a hacker attack on the airline’s systems the previous day.

The majority of the canceled departures from Sheremetyevo were scheduled before 10:00 AM Moscow time, affecting destinations across Russia and internationally. Cities impacted include Ufa, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk, Sochi, Yekaterinburg, Makhachkala, Kazan, Almaty, Yerevan, and Minsk.

As of the latest update, 11 flights are experiencing delays. These flights are headed to Sukhum, Orenburg, Cheboksary, Kaliningrad, Sochi, Kazan, Kirov, Volgograd, and St. Petersburg.

Aeroflot asserts that flight operations have largely returned to normal since 10:00 AM on July 29. The airline stated its intention to operate 93% of its paired flights to and from Moscow, totaling 216 out of 233.

The airline characterizes the earlier cancellations as a “point cancellation” event, indicating a temporary disruption. On July 28, Aeroflot reported operating 80% of its scheduled flights, with the majority of adjustments concentrated in Moscow, while regional flights proceeded as planned.

The system failure on July 28, attributed to a hacker attack, caused widespread disruptions, particularly at Sheremetyevo Airport.
