Activist Sentenced to Detention for Disruptive Behavior at Tennis Court

Yaroslav Kostrov, an activist from the group “Central District for a Comfortable Environment,” has been sentenced to 10 days in a special detention center. The Smolninsky District Court delivered the sentence following a protocol detailing Kostrov’s disruptive behavior at a tennis court in Ovsyannikovsky Garden on May 22.

According to the protocol, Kostrov “behaved inadequately, shouted, used rude, obscene language, and waved his arms” at the location. The protocol also stated that there were no victims as a result of his actions.

The incident stems from a dispute regarding the use of the sports ground. Tennis players had previously complained about Kostrov, alleging that he tried to remove the net from the court, claiming he had personally purchased it. The tennis players attempted to retrieve the net.

Kostrov stated that he was trying to help volleyball players who were being prevented from using the universal sports ground by tennis players coming from all over the city.

The tennis players, in turn, have claimed that the local activist “literally terrorizes” them, preventing them from gathering at what they consider to be the only open free court in the city.

The athletes also stated that they previously had conflicts with volleyball players, but they were later able to agree on the use of the court, which Kostrov allegedly did not like.
